Assessment of Subclinical Vascular Disease Associated with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

CONCLUSION: In this well characterized AS population, impaired FMD and increased ccIMT and PWV indicate abnormal endothelial function and increased atherosclerosis and aortic stiffness, respectively. The value of noninvasive diagnostic tools needs to be further characterized. PMID: 21239756 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: J Rheumatol)

Effect of a Symptom Diary on Symptom Frequency and Intensity in Healthy Subjects.

CONCLUSION: The use of a symptom diary for 2 weeks, even in generally healthy subjects, results in increased recall of daily symptoms and increased perception of symptom severity. PMID: 20889603 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: J Rheumatol)

Comparative Analysis of Disease Activity Measures, Use of Biologic Agents, Body Mass Index, Radiographic Features, and Bone Density in Psoriatic…

CONCLUSION: The level of disease activity and radiographic damage was significantly higher for RA vs PsA subjects, although the magnitude of differences was relatively small. BMD levels were comparable between cohorts. Outcomes in patients with PsA and patients with RA may be more similar than previously reported.

Assessment of Ankylosing Spondylitis Criteria in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain and Vertebral Endplate Modic I Signal Changes.

CONCLUSION: Patients with cLBP and Modic I vertebral endplate signal changes on lumbar MRI do not fulfill widely used and validated criteria for SpA and/or AS. Such cases are clinically distinct from SpA and AS

Applying the Impairment, Activity Limitation, and Participation Restriction Constructs of the ICF Model to Osteoarthritis and Low Back Pain Trials: A…

CONCLUSION: Different interventions used to treat musculoskeletal disorders may have differential effects on impairment, activity limitation, and restricted participation. The use of outcome measures that do not differentiate these 3 domains may obscure the true value of an intervention.

Nonarticular Tenderness and Functional Status in Patients with Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis.

CONCLUSION: Patients with DISH have a lower pain threshold than patients who do not have DISH. TP count and TTS correlate with the functional status, BMI, waist circumference, and high-grade BB. No correlation was observed between pain threshold and MS.

Quantifying Bone Marrow Edema in the Rheumatoid Cervical Spine Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

CONCLUSION: Current RA disease activity scores do not identify activity in the cervical spine. An MRI score that quantifies BME, synovitis, and erosions in the cervical spine may provide useful information regarding inflammation and damage. This could alert clinicians to the presence of significant pathology and influence management
